the legend goes that when the first few days of woodbridge township, the area between fords & perth amboy, alongside new brunswick avenue and stretching to florida grove road was a rural, grassy meadow owned by a man by the name of luther hope. this land was where cows grazed. the hope family owned this land for many years and it was known by hope"s farm, hope"s field, and hope"s lawn. finally it was called hopelawn.
